¡Hola! I'm Zilpah, the Analytics & Performance Director here at Creative Bytes. I spend my days looking at the numbers behind how businesses get found, and helping owners understand what those numbers are really telling them. Today I want to talk about the customers who might be looking for you right now.
Okay, real talk. Your phone didn't ring today. Does that mean nobody was looking for you? Not always. Sometimes they were looking and just needed a little more to go on.
Here's the tricky part, mi gente: you don't always see those customers. They don't leave a voicemail. They simply pick the business that looked more trustworthy at a glance.
The quick answer: Most customers decide whether to call you before they ever visit your website. They look at your Google Business Profile, your reviews and what AI tools say about you. If that first impression is thin or outdated, they may keep looking. A complete, active profile is one of the simplest ways to welcome those calls.
Here's what the numbers say
- 31% of consumers now require a 4.5-star rating or higher, up from 17%. (BrightLocal, 2026)
- 74% of consumers focus on reviews from the last 3 months. (BrightLocal, 2026)
- The share of people using AI tools to find local businesses jumped from 6% to 45% in a year. (BrightLocal, 2026)
Translation? A little fresh attention on your profile and reviews can go a long way toward getting the call.
Google Business Profile tips that actually move the needle
- Fill in every field. Hours, services, service areas, categories and a clear description. Blank spots make people (and AI tools) guess.
- Keep your hours honest. Update them for holidays and special days. Nothing loses trust faster than a "we're open" listing at a locked door.
- Ask for reviews regularly. Since recent reviews matter most, make asking a habit, not a once-a-year event.
- Reply to every review. A warm thank-you or a calm, helpful response shows people there's a real human behind the business.
- Add fresh photos. Your team, your space, your work. Real photos help customers feel like they already know you.
Why does this matter for AI search too?
AI tools pull from what's publicly available about your business. A complete, current profile with recent reviews gives them more to work with when someone asks, "Who's the best near me?"
Try this today (it takes 5 minutes): Search your business name on Google, just like a customer would. Is your phone number right? Are your hours current? When was your last review? Write down one thing to fix this week. Poco a poco.
Quick questions we hear a lot
Is a Google Business Profile free? Yes, setting one up and managing it is free through Google. The real investment is keeping it active.
How do I get more reviews without being pushy? Ask right after a great experience, and make it easy with a direct link. Most happy customers are glad to help, de corazón (from the heart).
